ASPIRING TEACHER
II. TEACHING STYLE
TEACHING STRATEGY 4

EFFECTIVE FEEDBACK
I would use effective feedback. I like this strategy because it gives the student an explanation on what is being required of them; using a rubric to mark the “why” of the grading requirements is ideal. It is important the feedback is “quality” and can also provide encouragement to students. “It should indicate exactly where on the learning journey a student is and which habits or strategies the student is using that might be working or might need to be changed and give the student ideas for what to do next” (Ferraro, et al., 2017, p. 107).
Teaching Strategy 5

SET STUDENT GOALS
I would have students set goals. Allowing a student to participate in their own academic learning brings interest, independence, and motivation. “One strategy that can be particularly motivating for students is setting their own goals and tracking progress” (Ferraro, et al., 2017, p. 114). Using a rubric, a student can set a goal and track their progress. Over time, they will be able to chart their progress; areas of growth and areas needing improvement.
Teaching Strategy 6

REFLECT ON STUDENT PROGRESS

I would incorporate student reflection on their progress. This strategy works in sync with setting goals. The student puts in their own words how well they have done or what improvements they need to make. “This structure asks students not only to self-assess where they are on the rubric but to use evidence from their answer to defend their evaluation” (Ferraro, et al., 2017, p. 114). Students can reflect after each topic or unit in their journals or notebooks. They will set goals, attempt to reach them, and reflect upon them throughout the school year.
